This series of essays explores the relationship between religion and literature in George Eliot’s early fiction. With a particular focus on Scenes of Clerical Life, Adam Bede, and The Mill on the Floss, this title complements the author’s previous publication, George Eliot’s Spiritual Quest in Silas Marner (2012).

John H. Mazaheri received his PhD from Brown University, and is a Professor of French at Auburn University, USA, where he has taught since 1989. He has researched extensively on seventeenth and nineteenth century French literature. His publications include monographs on John Calvin, Molière, La Fontaine, La Bruyère, Balzac and George Eliot.
