Cats Talk is S. R. Harnot’s translated short story collection, and explores the social, political, religious, and cultural milieu of the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. Written in the zeitgeist of Pahari life, his stories hold universal appeal. These stories delineate the range of difficulties and absurdities and the joys and rewards of life in this mountainous region. They delve into socio-economic inequities, ecological imbalances, political peccadilloes, class and caste discriminations, individual selfishness, and the transforming human relationships in contemporary India.

S. R. Harnot is a noted Indian writer from the state of Himachal Pradesh. He is the author of nine short story collections, including Panja, Aakashbel, Peeth Par Pahad, Jeenkathi Tatha Anya Kahaniyan, Mitti Ke Log, and Dus Pratinidhi Kahaniyan. He has also published the novel Hidimb, and has received numerous awards, including the International Indu Sharma Katha Sammaan, the All India Bhartendu Harishchandra Award, the Himachal State Akademi Award, the Award for Tourism and Literature from the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, and the Fiction Writer of the Year Award by Divya Himachal Daily Newspaper.

Khem Raj Sharma is Assistant Professor of English in the Department of English and European Languages at the School of Humanities and Languages of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, India. As a researcher, his areas of interest include postcolonial literatures, Indian writing in English, folk literature, diasporic literature, comparative literature and translation studies. He has published research papers in various national and international journals, and co-edited the book Critical Voices on Toni Morrison (2015).

Meenakshi F. Paul is Professor of English at the Himachal Pradesh University Centre for Evening Studies, India. She is a translator and poet. Her publications include a volume on bi-lingual poetry, Kindling from the Terraced Fields, and a book of translation, Short Stories of Himachal Pradesh.
