This volume provides a contemporary reflection on the journey of many former European communities that migrated to Australia in the post-war period and their stories of settlement, assimilation and integration. The chapters provide perspectives from a range of disciplines and approaches across different communities. There are common themes that emerge, as well as unique issues which define these communities.

Bruno Mascitelli is Associate Professor at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and President of the European Studies Association (CESAA). After working for the Australian Consulate in Milan for 16 years, he returned to Australia and obtained his PhD at the University of Melbourne in the field of Italian politics. He teaches European Studies and has authored and edited thirteen books, as well as forty journal articles across a variety of fields, including Australian trade, migration and the Italian expatriate vote. His latest publication is The Austrade Story: Export and investment facilitation under the microscope (2015).

Sonia Mycak is a Visiting Fellow in the Centre for European Studies at the Australian National University. For eleven years, she held research fellowships at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, two of which were awarded by the Australian Research Council. Her research focuses upon the multicultural literatures of Australia and Canada.

Gerardo Papalia is a Research Associate in Italian Studies at Monash University, Australia. He has completed degrees in Italy and Australia and has taught at universities in both countries. He is a specialist in the study of the history and culture of the Italian diaspora in Australia. His publications cover a wide range of disciplines including the history of relations between Italy and Australia, Italian and Australian cinema, religious beliefs, domestic architecture, and diaspora literatures.
