Interpreting the New Milenio is a collection of essays analyzing the past, present and future directions of Chicano Literature. Beginning with the presence of Spanish conquistadors in the U.S. and ending with contemporary authors such as Sandra Cisneros, Interpreting the New Milenio covers well-known Chicano authors as well as lesser known 19th-century Hispanic writers. The essays in the collection examine Chicano literature as well as its precedents as a whole, so as to find the keys for the interpretation of the challenges posed by the new millennium.

José Antonio Gurpegui (San Adrián, 1958) is Director of the IUIEN (Research Institute for North-American Studies) at the Universidad de Alcalá (Spain). He has published extensively on Chicano and American literature. He is the editor of Alejandro Morales: Fiction Past, Present, Future Perfect (Bilingual Press) and the author of Narrativa chicana: Nuevas propuestas analíticas (Universidad de Alcalá Press). He was Visiting Scholar at Harvard University (1994-1996) and a regular contributor of the literary supplement of El Mundo newspaper, “El Cultural.”

M. Carmen Gomez-Galisteo is currently a Ph.D. candidate in U.S. Studies at the IUIEN at the Universidad de Alcalá. She is board member of ADECHAN as well as corresponding editor for NeoAmericanist. She has published on Native American Studies, women’s studies and is a contributor to The Literary Encyclopedia. Her research interests include 16th- and 17th-century American literature, women’s studies and popular culture.
