With the occurrence of the US crisis, international focus has shifted from finance to financial stability. This book offers analyses of financial stability risk assessment at three main levels – namely international financial markets, banks and international trade – with the research being innovative, timely and much needed in terms of policy implications. New approaches to policy-making are also suggested to deal with the three crises that presently buffet the world: the debt crisis, an ageing population and climate change.

  • The breadth and severity of the financial crisis caught most commentators unaware. As the impact of the sovereign debt overhang and recession continues, there is a need for research that furthers the debate on how to push Western economies back to a path of sustainable growth. This timely book represents an eclectic collection of ideas that will stimulate debate on how to ensure that such an economic and financial failure cannot occur again.
    - – Chris Brooks Professor of Finance and Director of Research, ICMA Centre, University of Reading, UK
  • This book brings a breath of fresh air to research on international financial markets, banks and international trade. It is a landmark contribution that will have a significant influence on policy-makers, regulators and researchers worldwide.
    - – Moses Muse Sichei Director of Research and Policy Department, Commission on Revenue Allocation; formerly, Manager in the Research and Policy Department, Central Bank of Kenya
  • A nice and lucid attempt to bring out the severity of the financial crisis starting from the Lehmann collapse and tracing it down to the most recent events. The most interesting part of the book is that it probes into how the crisis impacts on the key drivers of international economies, namely financial markets, banks and international trade. Can adorn the bookshelf of any serious reader.
    - – Ramachandra Krishnamurthy Gurumurthy rated as the best performer in certain investment products globally in the third quarter of 2011 by a large European Bank
