This book addresses academics and students, as well as practitioners in the field of translation and interpretation. The topic is relevant for the present-day European context and makes research in the humanities serve societal goals, being likely to confer a proactive role to the academia.

The volume comprises a study intended to generate knowledge regarding the procedures currently under way with local public institutions, adopted for ensuring efficient communication with and quality services for the international public. The findings gravitate towards the conclusion that, in the case of public institutions functioning in minority language speaking countries which belong to supranational unions and communities (like Romania, a member of the European Union), intercultural dialogue via the Internet is encouraged and implementation of change is on the way.

Nevertheless, the Internet has brought about new challenges and there remain a number of issues to be addressed and problems to be solved. Which is why, for comparison purposes, the book also considers website translation and localization with public cultural institutions and with multinational companies.

Alexandru Praisler is a Senior Lecturer at “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, Romania, and a professional translator and interpreter. He has a PhD in Translation Studies (2012) and was a postdoctoral fellow (2014-2015) with a project on the translation and localization of institutional websites. He has published extensively in the fields of translation studies and critical discourse analysis. His research interests are politics, translation, website localization, and subtitling.
