Ancient India served her people with incredible methods of education. However, these sumptuous streams of education later fell into a period of ignorance and disrepair. The country’s education system lost its credibility, and was seen as inferior to the European systems. This book describes the magnificence of the history of education in India during the Vedic, Jain, Buddha, and Islamic periods, and during colonial British rule and the post-Independence era.

Sankaranarayanan Paleeri received his PhD in value education from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India. He has conducted research on theatre education, pedagogy of social sciences, education of linguistic minorities, and children with learning disorders. He is the author of Rudiments of Education: Sociology and Philosophy and 26 journal articles, and edited Gender, School and Society. He is currently Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at NSS Training College, University of Calicut, Kerala, India.
