This book analyzes the extensive role of the US Federal Reserve in our daily lives, which exceeds the overall role that the government plays, and its consequences for the world’s economy. The book also covers the dominance the Federal Reserve exerts globally. This world dominance has recently given rise to international opposition, as seen in the Russian-Ukrainian war and the rise of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) bloc.
The book stands on three pillars that portray the entire picture about the Federal Reserve’s role in the US and the rest of the world. The first pillar is about the history of central banks and fiat money, and how hyperinflation has forced kings and leaders to search for innovative ways to fight inflation. The second pillar is structured around monetary policy’s influence on key macroeconomic quantities, and the third pillar turns to analyze the key challenges that the Federal Reserve faces, including keeping the Federal Reserve Chair apolitical.

Yosef Bonaparte is Professor of Finance at the Business School of the University of Colorado, USA, where he is also the director for external affairs in finance. He has a PhD in economics from the University of Texas, USA, and has taught in several institutions and universities in the United States and Canada. His research focuses on household finance, asset pricing, demographic and racial finance, and political finance. More specifically, Professor Bonaparte’s work centers around analyzing how the political climate and political affiliation influence key household financial decisions, such as risk tolerance and participation in the stock market.
