Valdir Cechinel Filho has a degree in Organic Chemistry (1987), and a master’s degree (1991) and doctorate in Chemistry (1995), all from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. He was Pro-Rector and Vice-Rector of the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI) from 2002 until 2018. He is currently Rector of UNIVALI, President of the UNIVALI Foundation and professor/researcher of the Postgraduate Program (M/D) in Pharmaceutical Sciences at UNIVALI.
Dr Filho develops research projects in collaboration with national and international researchers. He has experience in the area of Organic Chemistry, with an emphasis on Chemistry of Natural Products and Medicinal Chemistry, working mainly on the following topics: bioactive natural products, synthesis of molecules of biological interest, and evaluation of the chemical structure-biological activity relationship. He has more than 400 published articles, 60 books and book chapters and 12 patent applications.
