Islamic Teachings and Social Structure

Ayesha Farooq is currently Associate Professor at Government College University Lahore, Pakistan, where she also serves as Chair of the Sociology Department. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan, and conducted her postdoctoral research at the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2017. She has published her work on various social structural aspects including marriage and family, gender roles, caste system, population dynamics, leisure and rural structure.

Dr Muhammad Sultan Shah is a Professor of Islamic Studies and Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Islamic and Oriental Learning at Government College University Lahore, Pakistan. He received his PhD from the Islamia University Bahawalpur, Pakistan, with a thesis “The Origin of Life and its Continuity: A Comparative Study of the Holy Qur‘an and Biology”. His areas of interest include Islam and science, Orientalism and Sirah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (upon whom be peace and greeting). He is the author of Evolution and Creation: Islamic Perspective, Poverty Alleviation in the Light of the Teachings of Prophet Muhammad, and Justice Pir Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari and his Quranic Exegesis Diya al-Quran.
