This text explores the inner workings of the ‘Cliveden Set’. Analysing the political tactics used by the group, this book carefully unpicks the strategic moves played by aristocrats within 1930’s Britain. This book would be beneficial to all academics with a keen interest in politics, history and social structures. Researchers and historians will also enjoy the deep analysis of the dynamic created by this group.

  • “This book is extraordinary; it offers fascinating and unique insights into a little-known history that deserves to be better understood by scholars, academics, and even the general public. I cannot recommend the book highly enough.”
    - Alex Newman Author of Deep State: The Invisible Government Behind the Scenes
  • “In this clearly written, creative, and interesting book, David Valladares adds to our understanding of British appeasement by establishing its connection to aristocratic politics and maintenance of the British Empire. Connecting these dots will make scholars rethink their understanding of one of the most infamous strategies of the twentieth century.”
    - Michael H. Creswell Author of A Question of Balance: How France and the United States Created Cold War Europe.
  • “David Valladares has made a valuable contribution to the scholarship of British diplomacy in the late 1930s by unpicking the full story of the "Cliveden Set”. He deftly draws together the disparate strands in British imperial heritage and thinking that were an important component in the widespread support for negotiation at the top of British society.”
