Bringing together a selection of papers presented at AICED (Annual International Conference of the English Department) 24 (Bucharest, June 2023), this volume delves into a variety of topics related to the exploration of language structure, from the linear order parallelism between the nominal and clausal domains, the syntax of binominal qualitative constructions, embedded gapped sentences in Modern Romanian and differentially marked objects in Old Romanian, to typological influences on translation and parameter-resetting in L2 learning. Contributions also focus on the phonology of aphasic Romanian and some varieties of English and Greek or the semantics of Romanian demonstratives. The volume is of use to all linguists interested in the structure of Romance and other European languages.

Mihaela Tănase-Dogaru is a Professor at the English Department of the University of Bucharest, Romania. She earned her PhD in 2007 from the University of Bucharest, with a thesis devoted to the syntax and semantics of noun phrases in English and Romanian.

Alina Tigău is a Professor at the English Department of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest. She earned her PhD in 2010 from the University of Bucharest, with a thesis devoted to the syntax and semantics of the direct object in Romance and Germanic languages.

Ioana Stoicescu is a Lecturer at the English Department of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Bucharest. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Bucharest. Her work has focused on the acquisition of tense and aspect in child Romanian, as well as scalar implicatures, and anaphora resolution.

Ruxandra Drăgan is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Bucharest and a Fulbright scholar with a fellowship at the University of Connecticut, USA. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest in 2011. Her research focuses on the linguistic representation of change of location/state structures in English and Romanian.
