The Death of Rehabilitation, or Lighting New Pathways to an Inclusive Working Life

As a strategic leader, manager, author, and consultant, Don Lavin has 51 years of professional experience in the disability employment space advancing competitive integrated employment in support of job seekers with significant disabilities. This includes roles as senior manager of a nationally recognized employment development organization and Executive Director of The Arc Minnesota, a statewide disability advocacy network. As Principal of Strengths@Work, Lavin consults nationally and internationally on organizational transformation, person-centered planning, evidence-based employment practices, and building the internal capacities of businesses to hire, train, supervise, and support workers with complex job support needs. A collaborating partner with Minnesota’s Transformation Initiative Technical Assistance Center, Lavin guides service providers in modernizing their business model and direct service practices to increase competitive employment and social inclusion. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the employment of youth and adults with disabilities, including the Minnesota Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE’s) Lifetime Achievement Award.
