The present book projects a themed article collection relating to Jews and the Gospel of John. Topics explore the Fourth Gospel in regard to the origins of Christian anti-Judaism/antisemitism, though other exegetical treatments from a Jewish frame of reference are presented. By exploring this topic across time and place, this collection aims to provide an historical context for understanding not only the Jewish Jesus but the specific framework in which Johannine Christianity was tied intrinsically to ancient Judaism, while simultaneously distancing itself of Jewish thought and culture. The implications for Jewish-Christian dialogue are clear, and it is hoped that the ensuing discussion will greatly enhance interfaith dialogue on the impact of sacred texts on different people groups in the modern era.

  • "This multi-authored volume of Jewish Studies approaches St. John focusing seriously on the book’s antipathy to Jews while presenting a balance of approaches, promoting rather than stifling discourse. It includes voices of Jews and Christians, with scholarship soundly based in such diverse fields as Judaic Studies, New Testament Studies, classic antiquity, history of antisemitism, and Holocaust."
    - Dr Seth Ward, Professor, University of Wyoming, USA
  • "In today’s world of polarized discourse, [this book] provides a much-needed third way. The laudable work of [the] editors […] presents a close reading of the anti-Jewish polemics of the four Gospels (particularly the Gospel of John) and their theological reverberations through the millennia."
    - Roberta Sabbath, Assistant Professor-in-Residence, English Department, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA
  • "This book is a compelling resource for ecumenical engagement across traditions concerned with the spiritual, ethical, and relational contours of our technological age."
    - Robert Nicastro, Villanova University, Villanova, PA, USA
