Jiří Šubrt – since 1990 – has lectured sociology at the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2009, he founded the study program of Historical Sociology there. In its area, he has focused on the problems of the civilization process, social change, modernization development, time and memory. He is the author and editor of many books published in Czech and English, mainly dealing with themes of contemporary sociological theory, particularly with regard to issues of action, structure and social systems. As an internationally recognized expert, he is known to readers thanks to a range of books he has published or edited in recent years. Among the most renowned are The Perspective of Historical Sociology; Individualism, Holism and the Central Dilemma of Sociological Theory; The Systematic Approach in Sociology; The Sociology of Time; Rethinking the Theoretical Concepts of Sociology: Critical Eclecticism and Reconfigurationism.
