Marko Modiano
Professor Marko Modiano works at Gävle University, Sweden, where he conducts research on the global spread of English, European English, standards for the teaching of English, the relationship between language learning and identity, and pedagogical approaches to teaching in multicultural classrooms. The author of numerous books and articles, he has gained international notoriety for his study of how Brexit will influence the future of English in the EU. The main focus of his research, however, is the emergence of English as an International Language and the implications of globalization for language learning, and his paradigm for a global rendition of English, the Centripetal Circles of English as an International Language, has been much discussed over the years.
