Shankar Saran
Shankar Saran graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Bihar College of Engineering at Patna University, India, in 1969. He was then selected as a Graduate Engineer Trainee by the erstwhile Hindustan Steel Ltd. (now SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant), before diversifying and working as a Safety Engineer and Training Officer. After this, he took charge as Superintendent (Safety) and Head of the Safety Department in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, India, before retiring as General Manager (Environment and Safety) in July 2007. He has been a Life Member of the National Safety Council, Mumbai, since 1984, and is the recipient of many honours, including the Safety Innovation Award 2006 and the Leadership and Excellence in SHE Award 2006. After retirement, he obtained an MSc at the University of Reading, UK, in 2011.
