This edited collection presents different aspects and levels of tourism management in Bulgaria from the last five years, including the COVID-19 pandemic period. The publication discusses the achievements and problems of development of destination as smart, sustainable and competitive and the role of DMOs (Destination Management Organizations). The impact and implementation of digital technologies in tourism, both in general and in Bulgaria, are observed in various dimensions. Key determinates of consumer behavior in online shopping for tourist products and hotel booking are presented, and their importance for tourism business management is explained. The book also explores challenges and opportunities which hotel managers encounter today and guidelines for innovative approaches in hotel management. The edited collection discusses methods for training tourism staff and managers in the context of the contemporary requirements for their competences and trends in tourism development.

Associate Professor Genka Rafailova (Tourism and Leisure Marketing and Management, Event Management) is a manager of the Centre for Cultural, Creative and Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Economics – Varna, Bulgaria. She holds a PhD in Tourism, and participated in a number of EU-funded projects, including the Pescavet Project. She is also the co-author of ‘Development of a Smart Tourist Destination’ (2030) with Zlatka Todorova and Hristina Filipova.

Professor Velina Kazandzhieva holds a PhD in Economics and Management Tourism and is the author of 84 publications, including nine monographs (seven co-authored); four studies (two co-authored); 25 scientific articles (14 co-authored); 32 scientific reports (12 co-authored); and 12 textbooks (all co-authored). Her latest publication is Monitoring the Sustainable Development of a Seaside Tourist Destination.
