This book presents aspects of the oral culture of Romanians, and some traditional musical instruments, as yet unknown on a global level. The book highlights the constructive evolution of these musical instruments over time and the interferences that contributed to their spread. A large number of unique photographs are included, which are “witnesses” of past or disappearing cultural events.
The book will be of interest not only to those specialized in the musical field (musicological researchers, ethnographers, musical instrumentalists, instrument collectors), but also non-specialists.

Ovidiu Papană worked at the West University of Timișoara’s Faculty of Arts (Romania) for 20 years, where he taught ethnomusicology and musical acoustics. He is currently an independent researcher and collector of Romanian and foreign traditional musical instruments (460 musical instruments and 70 musical toys). His current work is focused on organology studies.
He has published 13 ethnomusicology books (in Romanian). The most important studies are contained in the last four organology volumes: Romanian Traditional Musical Instruments, Acoustic-Musical Studies (I – chordophone musical instruments, II aerophone musical instruments, III – membranophonic musical instruments, and IV – idiophone musical instruments).
