Issues in Arabic Legal Translation

Sonia A. Halimi is Professor at the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI), University of Geneva in Switzerland. After a long career in translation for international organisations, she is presently head of the Arabic Unit at the FTI. She is the founder and director of two distance programs in Multilingual Communication and Specialized translation. Her many publications in legal translation encompass the cross-systemic and cross-cultural variability of legal terminology, and legal genre-based formulaicity with a focus on the many facets of Arabic legal translation as a social activity.

Djamel Goui is Professor of translation and interpreting at the Department of Literature and English language at the University of Kasdi Merbah, Ouargla in Algeria. He is also an official sworn translator-interpreter accredited by the Ministry of Justice of Algeria. He is the founder of a Master’s in translation at his university. He is as well a visiting collaborator in many African and European programs of translation and interpreting. His field of research is translation, intercultural communication, and legal translation.
