Caregivers of people with psychosis need all the help and support that health services and professionals can provide, but barriers remain to implementing specific interventions for caregivers. Although research has shown that caregiver interventions are helpful in decreasing psychological distress and increasing overall well-being, there is a large gap between research findings and actual implementation of caregiver interventions.
The use of new technologies and online interventions with caregivers of people with psychosis seems to be emerging as a promising complementary strategy to face-to-face care.
In this book, we present a general review of the current panorama described in the scientific literature on the use of new technologies in the field of health, with special emphasis on their applicability to the field of mental health, and describe a new format of online family intervention for caregivers of people with psychosis, carried out in the Network of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centers of Gran Canaria (Spain). It also reports the criteria used for the construction of the new online family intervention format and the contributions of the literature that have served as a guide.
