The ability to communicate is truly powerful as it enables us to say what we want, express what we feel, share what we think. And it is not only about us, to make ourselves heard, but to hear others, because both speaking and listening are integral parts of the communication process. It is not only to say what you want or to hear the message but to listen attentively and to understand the meaning behind it. If the meaning is grasped, any potential misunderstandings, frustrations and conflicts are avoided, while personal connections are deepened, team work is improved, problem solving skills are developed and, eventually, people’s mental health is enhanced.
Yet, it is not only what people say, but how they say it that is tremendously important, so care should be taken with all verbal and non-verbal clues that contribute to better relationships at home and work.
This collection studies the process from different authors’ perspectives and analyses it in various (professional) contexts, and, by examining the transition from form to meaning, it underscores the importance of language in every communication we engage in.
