Green tribology is a new field established by the present author at the beginning of this century, given the increasing global environmental and energy crises. This book is currently the only academic monograph in the world which systematically validates the principles and practice fields (energy conservation, environment protection, green equipment, natural disaster, nano-green tribology) of green tribology. The natural disaster tribology (preventing and mitigating natural disasters) proposed firstly by the author is a major feature of this book. In addition, it is also introduced the application of biomimetic surface technology/engineering in the oil and gas industry. Therefore, not only the scholars and engineering technicians engaged in the research and application of tribology/green tribology and oilfield equipment, but also the geologists engaged in geological disaster research will be much interested in this book. It could be a recommended reading to the “Tribology” course for all colleges of engineering.

Siwei Zhang is professor of Tribology and Mechanical Engineering at the China University of Petroleum in Beijing. He is the honorary director of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering and the deputy director of the steering committee of the State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication of the Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He formerly served as the Chairman of the Chinese Tribology Institution (CTI) and the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the CTI in succession.

His professional interests mainly include tribology, surfacial mechno-chemistry and oilfield equipment. He mostly conducted and super¬vised in tribology of polymers, friction materials, nano-tribology and tribological components of oilfield equipment. At the beginning of this century, he firstly proposed a new subject “Green Tribology” and advocated the development of this new branch of tribology, that is related to promote sustainable development of nature and society.

In 2009, he received the Brilliant Contribution Award in Tribology of Chinese Tribology Institution.
