Dr Spanakis Manolis is currently a Lecturer of Greek Language and Culture at Beijing Foreign Studies University, China. He worked previously as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Crete (2021-23, UCRC) and Postdoctoral Research Fellow (2018-20) in the collaborative project on “Bible Epic and Apollinaris of Laodicea’s Metaphrasis Psalmorum” at the Department of Classical Studies and Philosophy, University of Cyprus. He has published articles and book chapters on Hellenistic poetry, late antiquity, and ancient literary criticism in peer review journals (Eikasmós, GLB, Pnyx, DeGruyter), as well as many reviews on books discussing aspects of Greek and Latin scholarship (BMCR, CR, JHS etc.). He obtained his PhD degree (2019) at the University of Crete (Department of Classical Philology), supported by the National Foundation State Scholarship of Greece, and his thesis examined the poetic and grammatical fragments of Rhianus of Crete. His research focuses on Hellenistic fragmentary authors, Homeric reception, Ancient Greek and Latin grammarians, Alexandrian poetry, and epic poetry of Late Antiquity.
