Drawing on the author’s extensive experience in higher education and research in functional materials, biomaterials, green technology, and environmental studies, this book focuses on utilizing natural sources, such as plant extracts, to develop materials that support ecosystem preservation and sustainable development. The use of inhibitors as anticorrosion compounds, particularly green corrosion inhibitors, remains one of the most effective, economical, and practical methods of protecting metallic surfaces, in order to replace not biodegradable, polluted and toxicity inhibitors of a chemical nature. The inhibitor acts by a surface adsorption process and can come from other natural sources like biopolymers, BioComposites or nanocomposites extracted from natural products (plants or animal) due to the presence of multiple coordination groups in their structures. The optimization of durable inhibitors’ performance is a crucial aspect for future research, since it involves a deeper understanding of the mechanisms.

Professor Dr Abderrahim Benmoussat earned his PhD in Materials Engineering in 2006 and a research supervision diploma in 2008 from Tlemcen University, Algeria. His research focuses on functional materials, biomaterials, green technology, and the environment. Since 2016, he has been an academic member of the Athens Institute for Education and Research. A full professor until his retirement, he began his career at Tlemcen University in 1982 and later served at the University of Tamanrasset, Algeria, from 2014 to 2022. He supervised numerous graduate and postgraduate research projects in Materials Science and served on PhD evaluation committees. He also published several scientific papers, participated in international conferences, and reviewed for scientific journals. As Director of the Research Laboratory on Materials and Energy at the University of Tamanrasset, he was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Science & Technology. His recent work includes research on steel corrosion, nanocomposite coatings, and natural corrosion inhibitors.
