In all epochs of history, questions such as: What is our place in the universe, how did it all begin, can science describe everything, could we find a formula that describes everything, are we alone in the universe, have been asked.

This book offers a journey into how our understanding of the world and the cosmos, has evolved. We begin with the myths of ancient civilizations, through philosophical approaches to the frontiers of modern physics. The reader is familiarized with both quantum physics and the general theory of relativity, without much mathematical baggage. The book provides information for anyone interested in science. The formulas, which are given in some cases, can be read over without losing the ideas and concepts of the theories. The most important ideas are set out in specially marked text. As we will see, quantum physics and chaos theory make the world a non-deterministic world, it becomes unpredictable.

Arnold Hanslmeier is Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Physics at the University of Graz, Austria. He is also a visiting professor at other universities, including the Universities of Vienna, Austria and Rijeka, Croatia. He has published more than 500 scientific papers and worked mainly in the field of solar physics, asteroids, celestial mechanics, gravitational lensing and astrobiology. He has published more than 20 popular books on astronomy and a standard textbook on astrophysics, which is used by many students worldwide. He has also published several scientific textbooks on astrobiology, solar and stellar physics. An asteroid was also named in his honor.

In addition, he has also worked as a visiting scientist at various institutes around the world, from India to several countries in Europe and the USA. In many popular and scientific lectures, he tries to transfer his passion for science to his audience.
