Based on the results presented in this book, and in accordance with previously published results, the authors emphasize the role of the extracellular matrix as the medium through which the processes of growth, invasion, differentiation, and cell death are regulated. Moreover, in the last chapter dedicated to the conclusions, the effect of Trace Elements zinc, selenium and manganese (OLMs) on these interrelationships is also discussed.

This book offers the reader promising basic and preclinical findings that give hope for the potential therapeutic use of OLMs in CRC (colorectal cancer) patients.

Additionally, the book opens several other avenues of research. Given that OLMs positively regulate immunity and negatively regulate tumor development and growth, one potential research direction would be to determine whether the antitumor action of OLMs is mediated by an increase in antitumor immunity.

In addition to their known nutritional properties, the trace elements Zn, Se and Mn can act on the inhibition of initiation and progression of colorectal cancer through the extracellular matrix.

Dr Rosa Bergoc was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She graduated and completed her doctorate at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina, and then completed various postdoctoral specializations at different institutions around the world. She is a full Professor and researcher with extensive experience in different in vitro and in vivo research models.
Dr Juan C Perazzo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a doctor graduated from the UBA, as well as Full Professor, co-founder and director of the Hepatic Encephalopathy Center at UBA.
Dr Ernesto J.V. Crescenti was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He graduated as a doctor from the UBA and then as a surgeon and clinician. He is a founder of the Inmuno-Oncology Institute (1986), Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Of the various lines of research developed by each of the authors, one in common stands out, which is the action of three trace elements on human health: zinc, selenium and manganese.
