This book is an insightful and thought-provoking collection that examines the profound relationship between culture and literature in the Indian context. This volume unites scholars from diverse disciplines to unravel how literary narratives shape, challenge, and redefine cultural identities, power structures, and evolving social paradigms.
Spanning historical, theoretical, and contemporary perspectives, the book explores critical themes such as colonial legacies, the politics of language, caste and class hierarchies, gender dynamics, and the intersection of literature with popular culture. It critically engages with Bollywood, cricket, and media representations while addressing pressing issues like globalization, environmental sustainability, and digital transformations. Additionally, the volume offers a compelling analysis of Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh and revisits Laura Mulvey’s male gaze theory in the context of Indian cinema.
Moving beyond Western-centric frameworks, this book advocates for a decolonial approach, foregrounding indigenous narratives and alternative cultural discourses. By bridging literary inquiry with cultural critique, it offers scholars, students, and cultural theorists an invaluable resource that deepens our understanding of how literature not only reflects but also reshapes the cultural fabric of society.
