This book analyses the crimes committed by various people, and how some of them felt guilty for what they did while others did not. We have analysed the reasons for these different types of reaction by a range of characters in the following chapters. Because of the nature of the subject, the individuals were chosen very carefully so that book would achieve its maximum impact; tightly controlled examples ensure the subjects remain within the province of the subject matter. The term ‘manacles of guilt’ was first used by William Blake in his poem ‘London’.
We have also focused on World War II and the Nazi Party and the Jallianwala Bagh murders in our choice of representative subjects relating to guilt. We have discussed the guilt in Hamlet from the point of view of the Prince’s two friends – Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, based on the play by Tom Stoppard. A range of similar examples make this book a very interesting read for a wide range of people.
