José Resende, is Assistant Research Professor of Sociology at the New University of Lisbon, Portugal. He is presently a Researcher at Cesnova- Research Centre and at the Permanent School Observatory, University of Lisbon.

Maria Manuel Vieira, sociologist, is Senior Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, Portugal, and former Vice-President of the Portuguese Sociological Association.
