This volume describes not just the story of Troy, but also theories of whether it did in fact exist. Excavation work at Troy by the pathfinders Schliemann, Dorpfeld, Blegen, and more recently modern excavation methods by Manfred Korfmann and the theories of Joachim Latacz are explored with emphasis on the University of Tubingen ‘TROIA Project’ which has attracted international attention.

The early travels of John Morritt to locate the then mythical site of Troy whilst Morritt circumnavigated Napoleonic armies makes one wonder whether his very early ‘attempt’ to find Troy was a clandestine mission to record local topography.

Robert D. Morritt studied Prehistory and Early Agriculture at the University of Manchester, UK, and Communications at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is a historian and a musicologist, and has travelled extensively in the American South and in Appalachia and the Southwestern states.
