Written in plain English, this easy to read book chronicles a PhD student’s journey of exploration into the lives of everyday people who describe themselves as home-base business operators. It is a must-read for anyone wanting to experience a step by step account of a research project utilising Grounded Theory methodology. From an initial research question, it documents the research process through data collection and analysis to the findings which are presented in the form of a model. The Home Entrepreneur Systems model which emerged from this project considers home-based business as existing on physical, social, biological and psychological dimensions which interact with lifestyle needs of security, autonomy, balance, meaning and community. The model offers a systems approach to understanding human needs met through the operation of home business and introduces the concept of home entrepreneurship as a unique aspect of entrepreneurship theory.

After spending his formative years working as a surveyor in the mining and construction industries, Ron Pierce-Lyons operated Bed and Breakfast and Café from his home in rural New South Wales, Australia, before undertaking University study as a mature-aged student.
