Established in 1997, the International Machine Vision and Image Processing (IMVIP) conferences bring together theoreticians, practitioners, industrialists and academics, from the numerous related disciplines involved in the processing and analysis of image-based information. These events provide a platform for communication and exchange between participants whereby cutting edge research and advances within the field can be communicated, discussed and information exchanged.

IMVIP events are hosted annually by different universities on the island of Ireland. These proceedings reflect the manuscripts selected for oral presentation at the 14th instalment of the series hosted by the University of Limerick, Ireland in 2010 in association with the Irish Pattern Recognition and Classification Society (IPRCS), a member organisation of the International Association of Patten Recognition (IAPR).

Prof. Martin J. Leahy is Scientific Director with the National Biophotonics and Imaging Platform Ireland (NBIPI). He currently holds the Chair of Applied Physics at the National University of Ireland Galway and was recently promoted to fellowship of SPIE and of the Institute of Physics for his significant service to society and the greater science community, as well as for the recognition of his noteworthy technical achievements.

Dr. Marie-Louise O’Connell is a Postdoctoral Researcher with the National Biophotonics and Imaging Platform Ireland (NBIPI). Her work focuses on the development and characterisation of sate-of-the-art spectroscopic and imaging techniques with direct clinical and biomedical applications. Dr O’Connell was lead organizer of IMVIP 10 as well as the international Biophotonics and Imaging Graduate Summer Schools (BIGSS) based in Ireland.
