This volume approaches foreign interventions in Cyprus from two different angles: a vertical angle, which corresponds to a case-by-case historical analysis of foreign interventions which have taken place throughout the modern history of Cyprus, and a horizontal angle, which corresponds to the implementation of systemic models of analysis in approaching foreign interventions in Cyprus. Furthermore, the volume deals with domestic perceptions formed as a result of foreign interventions in Cyprus, focusing particularly on their impact on the politics and public rhetoric of the Cyprus problem, especially as regards the Greek Cypriot community.

  • A challenging volume addressing from different theoretical perspectives the issue of intervention by influential external actors (US, UK, USSR) in facets of the Cyprus problem, and the impact of these interventions on Cypriot domestic politics. The periods under review will help readers and analysts understand the challenges involved in the resolution of a perpetuated international problem.

  • Assessing the relation between the Cyprus question and the structure of the international system had always been a major challenge for researchers. This book shows that a new generation of Greek Cypriot scholars has made important progress in revisiting this important problem, free of the temptation to deify or demonize the omnipresent ‘foreign factor'". —Evanthis Hatzivassiliou, Associate Professor, Department of History and Archaeology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens "This volume contains excellent articles written by representatives of the new generation of Greek Cypriot researchers, historians, jurists and political scientists. It is a very useful book for the study of the contemporary history of Cyprus, both from an international relations viewpoint in the Postwar World and the internal aspects of the anticolonial struggle of EOKA 1955–1959, comprising also the history of a state, that of the Republic of Cyprus, established in 1960.
