Advances in Chinese as a Second Language

This book is a collection of 13 empirical studies examining the acquisition and processing of Chinese as a second language. On the acquisition front, these studies explore the acquisition of structures such as the perfective marker le, wh-questions, bei- constructions, and bare nouns, and examine the factors that may affect acquisition such as learners’ background, anxiety, and instruction. Processing studies cover topics such as the identification of Chinese tones, the recognition of characters, the processing of compounds and relative clauses, and the expression of motion events.

Many of these studies represent pioneering and cutting-edge research on their respective topics, and all will be of interest to students and scholars who are interested in the study of acquisition and processing of Chinese as a second language.
