Technologies and Applications
Edited By: So Gu Kim

This book discusses active source seismology, focusing on the technologies and applications for underwater, nuclear, and chemical explosions. It presents seismological investigations for discriminating between earthquakes and man-made explosions for defense sciences.

This book discusses three major physical phenomena for active source seismology, namely underwater explosions, underground nuclear explosions, and large-scale on-surface chemical explosions. In particular, contributors consider how to use the technologies and applications in active source seismology and seismo-acoustics, rather than the theoretical approach for the resolution of the forensic explosion seismology in the light of an application for defense sciences. The volume also presents seismological investigations of discrimination between earthquakes and man-made explosions.

So Gu Kim is the Director of the Korea Seismological Institute. He has previously worked as Professor of Physics and Geophysics at Hanyang University, Republic of Korea, as Invited Professor at Hokkaido University, Japan, and Peking University, China, and as Invited Scientist at the German Research Centre for Geosciences. He has carried out a number of active and passive source seismology research studies, including marine geophysics and petroleum exploration projects.

Yefim Gitterman is Senior Researcher at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, having previously worked as a Research Scientist at the Geophysical Institute of Israel. He has initiated and managed a number of international projects devoted to different aspects of monitoring nuclear explosions.
