By: Anand Singh

For 2000 years, four “isms” have dominated the globe: Christianity, Islam, capitalism, and socialism. None curb the ruthless accumulation of power or steer humanity towards sustainable living. This book suggests a new path through Eastern and First Nations philosophies.

This book is a critique of the four major “isms” that have dominated global politics over the last two thousand years. Two of them are based on religion: Christianity and Islam. The other two are secular ideologies: capitalism and socialism/communism. Each of the four profess to be rooted in humanism and fairness towards all human beings. They began in the Middle East and Europe respectively. However, while rhetoric surrounding justification for their spread emphasizes equality and dignity for all of humanity, the reality is different. None of these “isms” provide perspectives on how the human-ecological nexus should be steered towards sustainable living on the planet, or provide frameworks for curbing excesses in the ruthless accumulation of power and wealth. The second half of this book covers this, and suggests renewed attempts towards this goal through the Eastern and American “First Nations” philosophies of humanism, rather than overplayed Middle Eastern aggression or Eurocentrism. After 2000 years of religious and political domination from the latter regions, the world needs to free itself from the rhetoric and actions of each of these four “isms”.

Anand Singh retired from his role as a political anthropologist at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2022. His MA in Social Anthropology was completed at the University of Cape Town in 1983, where he was also awarded the first Nelson Mandela Scholarship to the London School of Economics and Political Science. Here, he completed his MSc in Social Policy and Administration and returned to work in South Africa, where he completed his PhD in Anthropology at the University of Durban-Westville on “Indians in Post-Apartheid South Africa”. His research and writings are spread over two prior books and at least 90 international book and journal publications. Most of his work revolves around the theme of political anthropology, covering issues of the South African Indian Diaspora during the apartheid and post-apartheid eras.

  • “A Hindutva Perspective by Professor Anand Singh is an important contribution towards building a case for a Hindu Rashtra (nation), which is essential for the survival and freedom of Hindus in Bharat (now called India) and the rest of the world, being the last surviving civilisation on Earth and the only place that Hindus can call home. The book covers a wide canvass of world history and contemporary dynamics to bring home the veiled issues and important realities for the interests of common people and budding intellectuals. The author has written in a fashion that can be easily followed, yet remains intellectually stimulating.”

  • "This book constitutes a grand sweep of the history of world civilizations from the perspective of presenting Hindutva as a favorable alternative to several other options."

  • “Professor Anand Singh’s book is based on such meticulous research that it will stand tall for generations to come. His focus upon the history, consolidation and gradual demise among contemporary “ISMs” of the world resonates with the rise and fall of so many civilisations and global powers that have met the same fate over the last several millennia, and leaves no room for doubt that the current global leadership, led by the USA and its European allies following World War II, will meet with meet similar fates as well. The book posits that their demise has to contend with the fact that an ideology such as Hindutva has more to offer in terms of world peace and the reestablishment of the eroded integrity of countries whose self-confidence has endured centuries of capture, colonisation and manipulation - having to suffer the impositions of religious conversions and ruthless exploitation of their natural resources. Hindutva needs to reviewed in terms of this work by Anand Singh and discussed with the seriousness it deserves, for the sake of an inclusive humanitarian global ideology that is free from the atrocities of the last two millenniums.”
