This book provides a detailed critical analysis of burnout, a concept first illuminated by Herbert Freudenberger. By citing arguments that show the inconsistencies and dangers of a general diagnosis, the book shows the effects this may have on the medical sector. With 140 symptoms and the absence of a negative diagnosis, this book argues that burnout represents the widest medicalization of human life that we know of.

Through analysis of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire and the work of Schaufeli, in addition to other authors, the author creates a detailed case against the generalization of burnout; this book will be of interest to students or academics within the medical field, along with researchers into the human psyche.
