Established at Old Oscott in Birmingham, England, in 1980, the Maryvale Institute provides a variety of part-time and distance learning courses to the lay faithful, and consecrated religious and ministers of the Roman Catholic Church. Maryvale’s doctoral research programme in Catholic Studies is conducted in collaboration with, and accredited by, Liverpool Hope University. Successful students receive an award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University.

This book is the second in a series of volumes concerned with the outcomes of that doctoral research programme. It provides an overview of the breadth of work by its students in the UK, Europe, the USA and Africa and their contribution to new knowledge in the area of Catholic studies, a wide field including history, literature, philosophy, spirituality, and theology.

Andrew B. Morris’s academic specialism is in the field of faith-based education and school leadership. He was seconded from the Archdiocese of Birmingham Diocesan Schools Commission to Liverpool Hope University in October 2007 as Senior Research Fellow and Director of the National Centre for Christian Education. He also served as Course Director of Postgraduate Research at the Maryvale Institute in Birmingham from 2013 to 2015. He remains an Associate of Maryvale Institute and the National Centre for Christian Education, and is also an Associate Member of the National Institute for Christian Education Research at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK. He is an established author, having published over thirty articles, six books, and nine book chapters since 1994.
