The present monograph brings to readers, as researchers and students of physics and mathematics, recent developments in symmetries, where the representation space is a symplectic manifold. This gives rise to the quantum field theory formulated in through the concept of phase space and associated with the Wigner function, a quasi-distribution of probability. This approach provides information about non-classicality of quantum systems, describes quantum chaos and is the starting point of the quantum kinetic theory. In this realm, abelian and non-abelian gauge symmetries are introduced with the concept of quasi-amplitude of probability. This leads, for instance, to Symplectic Schrödinger, Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations dealing with systems in condensed matter and particle physics. These achievements are depicted here, following a pedagogical model of presentation.

Ademir E. Santana is Associated Senior Professor at the International Centre of Physics, University of Brasília. His areas of research interest include thermal quantum fields, symmetry groups, and physics education.

Faqir C. Khanna is Emeritus Professor at the University of Alberta, Canada. His areas of research interest include particle physics, thermal quantum fields, Lie groups, hadron physics, and quantum gravity.

Alesandro Ferreira dos Santos is Professor of Physics at the Institute of Physics, Mato-Grosso Federal University, Brazil. His areas of research interest include modified gravity, confined quantum fields, and thermal quantum fields.

Ronni Geraldo Gomes de Amorim is Professor of Physics at the Gamma Faculty, University of Brasília. His areas of research interest include quantum fields, symmetry groups, symplectic manifolds, quantum gravity, and physics education.

José David M. Vianna is Emeritus Professor at the International Centre of Physics, University of Brasília, and Full Professor of Physics at the Institute of Physics, Bahia Federal University, Brazil.
