The Role of Mini Zinc-Finger Protein in the Replication of the AIDS Virus

By: Jean-Luc Darlix

From £30.99

This book illustrates how a small, disordered protein in the AIDS virus controls its structure, replication, and genetic variability. It highlights how proteins lacking a defined 3D structure can act as molecular adaptors through a series of interactions with RNA molecules.

Through an investigation of the nucleocapsid protein of the AIDS virus, this book illustrates how a small disordered basic viral protein controls virus structure, replication and genetic variability. It also highlights novel concepts indicating that proteins devoid of a defined 3D structure can have many different roles as mediated by a series of molecular interactions with RNA molecules, and, as such, behave as molecular adaptors.

Jean-Luc Darlix holds a PhD in Natural Science, as well as degrees in Alpine Nivology and Meteorology. His research is dedicated to the study of viruses, from E.coli T bacteriophages to human pathogenic viruses, including HIV-1 and HCV, by means of biochemical, genetic and electron microscopy techniques. He has collaborated with research institutes and hospitals in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, Canada and Chile. He is the author and co-author of 280 publications and 20 book chapters, and the editor of three books on viruses. During the past 20 years, he has been a GMO expert for the French and Canadian governments and a reviewer for various scientific journals, including Nucleic Acids Research, PNAS, PLOSONE, and Retrovirology.
