Understanding the Refugee Experience in the Canadian Context

Bharati Sethi, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work of King’s University College, Canada, and an Adjunct Professor at the Arthur Labatt School of Nursing of Western University, Canada. She is an early-career researcher, and utilizes community-based participatory research and arts-based methods to highlight social determinants of health in immigrants and refugees’ lives and capture their relevance to social justice. She has contributed to 50 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 75 public presentations in the last 10 years.

Sepali Guruge, RN, PhD, is Professor in the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing at Ryerson University, Canada. An established scholar in her field, she has published and presented extensively, with more than 270 refereed contributions and 100 invited presentations. Her work has been published in Spanish, Portuguese, Tamil, Sinhalese, Farsi, French, and English. She is also the editor (with Enid Collins) of the book Working with Immigrant Women: Issues and Strategies for Mental Health Professionals.

Rick Csiernik, PhD, RSW, is Professor at the School of Social Work, King’s University College, Canada. He has contributed to over 200 peer-reviewed publications, in addition to 15 books, and has made over 200 public presentations during his career.
