This edited volume sheds light on why, even though he lost the 2020 election, more than 74 million people—nearly half of the American population—voted for Donald Trump. In his four years, President Trump was a divisive figure. Authored by scholars and activists from an array of disciplinary areas and backgrounds, this book addresses why certain groups of voters found Trump appealing, how the Trump campaign utilized fear and conspiracy theories to woo voters, lessons Democrats should learn from the 2020 election, and the role activism had in the election and in the continuation or amelioration of Trumpism.

Laura Finley, PhD, is Professor of Sociology and Criminology at Barry University, USA. She is the author, co-author, and editor of more than 30 books, as well as numerous book chapters and journal articles. Additionally, Dr Finley is a syndicated columnist with Peace Voice and an activist for peace, human rights, and gender equality. She serves as Co-Chair of the Board of Directors for the Peace and Justice Studies Association and is a Board Member for The Humanity Project and Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. With Michael Minch, she co-edits the Peace Studies: Edges and Innovations series.

Matthew Johnson holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies from Hacettepe University, Turkey, and a BA in Journalism from the University of Maryland, where he began his activism organizing against war, poverty, racism, mass incarceration, and gender-based violence. He currently serves as the Publications Chair of the Peace and Justice Studies Association. He has published several articles and contributed to many books related to gender, racial, social, and restorative justice and is co-author and editor (with Dr Laura Finley) of the 2018 book Trumpism: The Politics of Gender in a Post-Propitious America. In addition, he has served as an educator in a variety of contexts, most recently in the virtual space as a cross-cultural dialogue facilitator and trainer for Soliya. He currently works as a User Experience Researcher.
