The contributions of this book enrich the modern discussion on the legal, political and economic perspectives of the three stages of a Member State’s “circle of life” in the EU: accession, participation through compliance with fundamental principles and rules, and potential exit in the form of withdrawal or expulsion. This volume explores the essential conditions for a state to become a member of the EU, and the institutions and methods established by the EU in order to achieve the prosperity of its members and to chart a common course, among other topics.

Dr Manolis Perakis holds an LLM from University College London and a PhD in EU Law from the University of Athens, where he also conducted his postdoctoral research. He is currently an Assistant Professor of EU Law at the Department of International and European Law in the Law School of the University of Athens. His main research interests include EU institutional law, EU human rights protection law, EU external relations law, and the law of the Economic and Monetary Union. He is the author of several books and journal articles.
